The PUNCH: The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Friday, laid the 2023 Appropriation Bill before a joint session of the National Assembly. The bill was tagged, โ€˜Budget of Fiscal Sustainability and Transition.โ€™ However, the key provisions in the proposed N20.51tn budget have attracted reactions from major stakeholders, including the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, economists and lawmakers, among others.


The Guardian: President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday presented a total budget proposal of N20.51 trillion to the National Assembly for the 2023 fiscal year. Tagged Budget of Fiscal Consolidation and Transition, the proposal came with a deficit of N10.78 trillion, which represents 4.78 per cent of estimated Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and above the three per cent threshold set by the Fiscal Responsibility Act 2007.


This Day: President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday, while presenting a record N20.51 trillion 2023 appropriation bill to a joint session of the National Assembly in Abuja, announced the discontinuation of subsidy on petrol in the country effective next year.


The Nation: With a record spending plan of N20.51 trillion in his last year in office, President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday warned that government would commence additional measures to cut the cost of governance and discontinue fuel subsidy.


Daily Trust: The federal government has earmarked N470 billion for revitalisation and salary enhancement in tertiary institutions in the 2023 budget proposal. Funding for the revitalisation of public universities is among the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), which has been on strike since February.
