The 2011 women’s World Cup champions Japan continued their unbeaten run as they beat the Super Falcons of Nigeria 2-0 in Thursday’s International Friendly match at Kobe

OsunDaily News understands that Japan has now defeated the Super Falcons three times in a row in their four encounters.

The Nigerian girls, meanwhile, have now lost their last five matches. Their most recent victory came in the quarterfinals of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in July in Morocco.

OsunDaily News earlier reported that notable Falcons players, Ifeoma Onumonu, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Rasheedat Ajibade, Osinachi Ohale, Ngozi Okobi, Uchenna Kanu, Michelle Alozie, Ashleigh Plumptre and among other joined the Falcons camp at Kobe.

With Falconets stars Flourish Sabastine, Esther Onyenezide, Deborah Abiodun, and Jumoke Alani, the ladies were all in action.

Japan scored two quick goals after the first half ended scoreless, thanks to a brace from Mina Tanaka. In the 64th minute, Tanaka broke the scoreless tie by bringing down a floated set piece with her chest and slipping the ball past Nnadozie.

After Ohale fouled a Japanese player who was through on goal in the 68th minute, Tanaka scored a brace by converting from the penalty spot.

Both the Super Falcons and Japan will both compete in the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in 2023.
