The National Coordinator of the Congress of Nigerian Universities Academics (CONUA), Niyi Sunmonu has denied being a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Apart from denying the APC, Sunmonu went further to say he is not a member of any political party.
OsunDaily News reports he made the submission on Wednesday during an interview appearance on Channels Televisionโs Sunrise Daily.
Asked by the anchor if he belongs to the APC, Sunmonu denied being a member of the ruling party or any other political party.
He said:ย โI am not a member of APC or any political party.โ
IPPIS Or UTAS
Asked if CONUA agrees with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) by rejecting the federal government’s Integrated Payroll and Personnel information system (IPPIS) and proposing the adoption of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS), Sunmonu said no system is perfect.
He argued that the bone of contention is not about the payment software but the wage structure of University lecturers.
We Are Yet To Receive Our Salary
The CONUA boss added that just like their ASUU counterparts, they have not been paid due to the lingering strike and the decision of the government to adopt the no-work-no-pay policy.
โOur salaries have not been paid though we have been working,โ he highlighted.
Despite agreeing that some of the demands by ASUU are justified, he said using strike to press home the demands is not the best option.
He instead recommended continuous dialogue.
โNegatives of strike outweigh positives,โ he said.
