The rift between the Presidential Campaign Council of All Progressives Congress (APC) and the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party seems not to be ending anytime soon.
This is as the leadership of the party ignored the directives of the NWC calling for the discontinuation of all campaign activities.
The presidential campaign council of the ruling party during the weekend had issued appointment letters, especially to Special Advisers despite the order from the NWC.
NWC last week asked that all activities be suspended because of the composition of the campaign council.
Naija News had earlier reported that the campaign council during the weekend issued appointment letters to the former governor of Sokoto State, Aliyu Wamakko, as Special Adviser on Special Duties to the Tinubu-Shettima Presidential Campaign Council despite the warnings of the NWC.
A member of the party’s leadership while reacting to the development in a chat with Daily Sun said the presidential candidate of the party, Bola Tinubu knows the consequences of sidelining the partyโs leadership.
He said, โAsiwaju is a politician and an experienced one at that. He should understand the implications of flouting the directives of the partyโs leadership. I suppose he also knows the disastrous consequences of going into this election as a divided house. He will not make that mistake because the consequences may be unimaginable.”
A top official of the party while reacting to the disbursement of the appointment letters said there is no cause for alarm in as much the letters are for Special Advisers.
He said, โAs far as the partyโs leadership is concerned, Asiwaju is issuing appointment letters to his aides. They may be part of the campaign council, but they will more or less work in the capacity of personal advisers. Let me emphasise that whether the letter from NWC got to him or not, Asiwaju cannot make the mistake of progressing in error again.โ
