The Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada on Wednesday banned the sale and unauthorized use of all fireworks including knockouts in the state.
The ban was contained in a statement issued by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel.
The PPRO noted that the ban became necessary due to the dangers associated with the sale and unauthorized use of the products, including criminal activities.
He said criminal elements are using it to carry out criminal acts, creating tension in the state, stressing that the fireworks also have a high tendency to cause injuries and fire outbreaks.
“The Commissioner of Police, therefore, warns dealers and users of knockouts to desist forthwith and urges parents/guardians to discourage their children and wards from buying and igniting fireworks as anyone caught would be made to face the full weight of the law”, the statement added.
