The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Abia State Command, has cautioned vehicle owners and other transporters against engaging in careless behaviours that can lead to loss of lives on the road during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The acting Sector Commandant, Abia State Command, Bridget Asiku, issued the warning while explaining some measures put in place to prevent accidents during the festive period.

Asiku warned against the use of expired or substandard tyres, which she said can cause a vehicle in motion to summersault.

Asiku, who is a Deputy Corps Commander, also listed over speeding alcoholism, overloading, non use of seat belts, making and receiving of phone calls when driving, impatience, and driving at night without light, as factors responsible for road accidents.

The FRSC said personnel have been deployed across strategic roads in Abia State to ensure that they are accident-free during the Yuletide.

The acting sector commander, who advised drivers to obey all traffic rules and observe road signs, further advised them to install speed limits on their vehicles.
