Kogi State Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello has warned newly sworn-in caretaker chairmen across the 21 local government areas of the state not to fail in their responsibilities.

Governor Bello, who gave the warning in Lokoja on Tuesday at the swearing-in ceremony, advised them to act according to the dictates of the party to benefit the people.

He also implored them to be open to all strata of people in the councils, as it was not going to be business as usual.

The governor explained that the foundation had already been laid for the caretaker chairmen to succeed in the administration of their LGAs, adding that they must deliver for the people of Kogi State.

According to Bello, many of the transition leaders were not new to the system; hence, they already knew areas that needed to be improved to bring about good governance across the councils.

He cautioned the council bosses that their appointment was not for merriment but to take up the challenge of bringing about development at the grassroots.

Bello reminded the gathering that officials and supporters who aligned themselves with the party and government policies had seen the good results of the present administration.

“You all must work tirelessly to secure and enlighten the people about harmony and bring about all the needed development in line with the vision of this administration. I am urging you all to

entrench unity and peace and avoid tribal or political sentiments that can cause tension in the state,” he added.

Speaking on behalf of others, the caretaker chairman of Lokoja Local Government Area, Abdullahi Adamu, assured the governor of their commitment to duties and party programmes, promising not to disappoint the present administration.

On his part, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Salami Ozigi, noted that the appointment of the caretaker chairmen was well deserved and called on them to ensure the safety of their council.

Ozigi enjoined them to exhibit diligence and loyalty to the constituted authority while carrying the people along.

OsunDailyNG recalls that Governor Bello announced on Monday the appointment of caretaker chairmen across the 21 local governments of the state.

The appointment follows the expiration of the tenure of former local government chairmen in last December.
