The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has expressed worry over some corps members who travel without approval.
Yobe State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Hafsat Yerima, made the position of the scheme known in an address delivered at the opening of the Corps Employersโ workshop in Gashuโa town on Wednesday.
She said the attention of NYSC management was drawn to the increasing cases of corps members travelling without approval from the appropriate authorities.
โManagement frowns at such unapproved travels as this has led to cases of avoidable road traffic accidents which have in some instances resulted in fatalities.
โI, therefore, admonish all NYSC staff to brace up to their onerous responsibilities and see themselves as guardians to the Corps Members by wielding the carrot and the stick where necessaryโ, she urged.
Speaking on corps membersโ welfare, Yerima implored employers to appreciate their services by providing them with permanent employment after their service year, irrespective of their states of origin.
She added that it will go a long way in encouraging socio-economic growth and mobility of labour as a strategy for national integration.
She appreciated the robust synergy between the NYSC and its stakeholders over the years.
