Bayer Leverkusen manager, Xabi Alonso has refused to rule out the possibility of replacing the departing Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
Klopp made a shock announcement on Friday that he would be leaving the role at the end of the current campaign.
Alonsoโs name has been mentioned as one of the strong candidates to succeed the German, following his impressive stint at Leverkusen.
The former midfielder played for the Reds in the mid-2000s and was part of Rafael Benitezโs side that conquered Europe in Istanbul in 2005.
When Alonso was asked on Friday if he could become the next Liverpool manager, he said: โThatโs a direct question! I donโt have a direct answer. Iโm happy here right now, thatโs for sure, and only thinking about Leverkusen.โ
On Kloppโs exit, he added: โI was surprised by Jurgenโs news. I have huge respect for Jurgen and Liverpool. At the moment I am really happy here and enjoying my work. Each day and game is a challenge. We are on an intense and beautiful journey here at Leverkusen.โ
