There was worry in Delta State on Friday after a three-storey building under construction collapsed in the Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state.

Reports obtained by OsunDailyNG on Saturday morning revealed that the building situated in the Okotomi area, Okpanam, which was meant for a hotel, collapsed at about 6 pm yesterday.

However, there is uncertainty on whether there was any casualty in the incident.

This is the latest in the recent building collapses across the country.

Earlier in the week, a five-storey building also under construction collapsed in the Lifecamp area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, OsunDailyNG recalls.

Emergency responders, including National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) officials, rescued no fewer than nine persons trapped in the Abuja collapsed building.

On June 29, three persons were reported injured when a two-storey building under construction collapsed at Rumuoke Street, off Okilton junction in Ada George road, Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

OsunDailyNG gathered that the incident happened on Thursday morning, and the victims were rescued and taken to the hospital for treatment.

Speaking with The Punch, an eyewitness named Tonye said they heard a loud sound just about the break of dawn, which frightened residents.

While saying that the cause of the collapse could not be immediately ascertained, he stated that some of the workers on the site who were living in the building were trapped.

He stated, โ€œWe saw that the three persons rescued this morning were still alive and were taken to the hospital.

โ€œWe are aware that the POP people and the tilers working in the building also live inside the building. Right now, we donโ€™t know whether there are other casualties. โ€

A female resident who did not want her name mentioned said they saw a man crawling out of the building when they approached the incident scene, and people quickly rescued him.

According to her, some of the workers had earlier raised the alarm after spotting a crack and brought it to the attention of others.

She said: โ€œSome workers said they noticed cracks in the building and asked their co-workers who were in the last building. But they didnโ€™t hear because they were playing loud music.

โ€œAfter that time, the building started shaking, so the ones downstairs ran away.

โ€œThe next thing the building started collapsing. We pray that those injured survive.โ€
