The Nigeria Customs Service Special Wildlife Office has warned perpetrators of illegal wildlife trade and trafficking of the agencyโ€™s resolve in the fight against such crimes in the country.

The Commandant, Compt. Haniel Hadison, gave the warning while leading partners in an on-the-spot assessment of the facilities at the Customs Training College (CTC).

He explained that the agency has adopted a strategic step to support global efforts to end wildlife crime in Nigeria as it joins in celebrating World Wildlife Day.

According to him, NCS, in its arrangements to further develop the capacity of the officers and men of the service in actualizing its objectives, held meetings with a team of international partners and the United States International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL) in Lagos.

โ€œThe plans include NCS further receiving training assistance to develop expertise, in addition to the provision of modern teaching aids to enhance the facilities at the Customs Training College, Ikeja.

โ€œThe Nigeria Customs Service already has the facilities; it is just about bringing them up to standard.โ€

โ€œNigeria Customs cannot attain its set objectives without collaborating with relevant organizations, and that is what we are experiencing at the moment,โ€ he said.

Hadison also commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Mr. Adewale Adeniyi, and the customsโ€™ management team for their continued support to the Special Wildlife Office of the service.

On the occasion of the celebration of United Nations World Wildlife Day (WWD), he disclosed that the wildlife office is re-strategiaing, adding, โ€œThat is why the college, being where the wildlife office of the Nigeria Customs is domiciled, is hosting our international partners and their donors.โ€
