The World Bank and Delta State Government have partnered with a view to improving access to potable water for residents across the state.
Ms. Judith Warmate, World Bank’s Senior Water Supply and Sanitation Specialist, disclosed this when a delegation from the bank and the Federal Programme Implementation Unit of the Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply Sanitation and Hygiene Programme (SURWASH) visited Delta State.
According to her, the team, which is on a five-day mission to the state, is expected to take advantage of the visit to learn and improve on efforts to make water available for residents in various states.
Participants included officers of various government agencies in the water sector from Delta, Ekiti, Imo, and Abuja.
“The team is not out to find fault but to have honest conversations with participating states as part of activities to ensure sustainable access to potable water for Deltans and residents,” she said.
In his address to the participants during the interactive session, Abudulhamid Guaram, National Programme Coordinator, SURWASH, said the essence of the mission was to assess grounds covered by states, hear challenges being encountered by them with a view to proposing solutions and ensure residents get potable water.
Delta State Commissioner for Water Resources Development, Dr Tosan Wilkie, who received the delegation, assured them that the state would improve access to potable water for residents.
The participants visited SURWASH sub-project sites such as the water schemes and sanitation facilities at Ogbe-Ogume Grammar School, Olie Primary School, and the market, all in Ogbe-Ogume in Ndokwa West LGA.
