The aggrieved governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and allies of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State are currently in a closed-door meeting in Lagos.

The five aggrieved PDP governors present include Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu).

Other PD chieftains present at the meeting currently taking place at the Southern Sun hotel, Ikoyi, Lagos, include the former PDP Deputy National Chairman, Bode George; former governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke; former governor of Ondo, Olusegun Mimiko; former governor of Ekiti, Ayo Fayose, and the former governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang, among others.

Makinde had told newsmen before the meeting proceeded behind closed doors, that the governors seeking the resignation of the partyโ€™s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu were being backed by the leaders and elders of the party present at the meeting.

Recall that Wike and his allies have been calling for the resignation of Ayu, citing that the PDP chairman and the partyโ€™s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, cannot come from the same region.

However, Ayu had insisted that he would not resign his position on the basis of the demands of Wikeโ€™s allies.

Owing to the crisis, Wikeโ€™s allies pulled out of the PDP presidential campaign council while vowing not to support Atiku.
