The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde has revealed why he was absent from the presidential campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday.
OsunDaily News had earlier reported that the main opposition held its presidential campaign in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
However, the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and his allies were absent from the event.
The camp of Governor Wike had pulled out of the PDP presidential campaign council to press home its call for the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu to resign.
Governor Wike’s camp had requested Ayu’s resignation from office over northern dominance in key positions in the party.
The aggrieved governors insisted that the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar and the national chairman of the party can not come from the same region.
Makinde when asked on Wednesday by the state house correspondents after the swearing-in of Olukayode Ariwoola as the chief justice of Nigeria (CJN) why he was not at the presidential campaign of the PDP said he needed to be in Oyo rather than Uyo.
The Oyo State Governor said, “I have been busy at home in Oyo state campaigning for everybody. Uyo is not where I need to put the votes together. It is in Oyo; so I stayed in Oyo.”
