Grammy Award-winning Afrofusion singer, Burna Boy has said he doesnโt like to feel boxed, the reason he does not believe in music genres.
The Grammy Award winner said this in an attempt to explain Afrofusion during an interview with Complex published on Wednesday.
The 32-year-old said, โWhy I created Afrofusion is because I didnโt want to be boxed into any Afrobeats or boxed into Hip-Hop or boxed into anything because I donโt believe in genres. So for someone who doesnโt believe in genres, where are you going to keep him?โ
He has been nominated six times for the Grammy Awards, winning one in 2021 for Best Global Music Album with his projectย Twice As Tall.
Burna Boy recently stated that Afrobeats has no substance, getting mixed reactions from fans and other musicians.
The โLast Lastโ crooner made this known during a recent interview with Apple Musicโs Zane Lowe in New York where he described Afrobeats as basically โnothingโ with no substance.
He said:ย โAfrobeats as people call it is mostly about nothing, literally nothing. Thereโs no substance to it. Nobody is talking about anything. Itโs just a great time, itโs an amazing time.โ
