The legal team of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has vowed to visit the Biafra agitator despite restrictions by the Department of State Services (DSS).

Kanuโ€™s lead counsel, Aloy Ejimakor warned that the DSS would get in trouble with the Abuja Federal High Court if it continues with the restriction.

OsunDailyNG reports that DSS had restricted Kanuโ€™s legal from visiting him following his outburst at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where he demanded the recusal of Justice Binta Nyako.

But, the court had threatened to jail DSS Director General Adeola Ajayi over the secret policeโ€™s restriction on Kanuโ€™s lawyers.

Speaking during an appearance on Arise TV, Ejimakor said, โ€œThe threat already has an impact because I did get some fillers, and Iโ€™m aware of the intervention of Obi Agwoucha and Speaker Tajudeen Abbas. They intervened politically on this matter and tried to resolve it by way of compromise, so I had informal information that DSS has retraced its steps and is now willing to do the right thing.

โ€œI should bring a letter with the names of the counsels that would visit Kanu on Monday, so I have done that and we will go there hoping that the restrictions would be lifted. If they are lifted we will go and interface with our client and if the restriction is not lifted the process in court will continue to its logical conclusion.

โ€œHe is entitled to access to his counsels under section 36 of the Nigerian constitution, Kanu is not supposed to be detained at the DSS in the first place โ€“ itโ€™s a glorified holding cell โ€“ he is supposed to be detained in prison where these restrictions normally donโ€™t occur.

โ€DSS is a security environment with security built in place that they take for granted.

โ€œThese restrictions donโ€™t go well for detainees. We are not forcing them to break their backs or change their system overnight but if you insist on detaining him where he shouldnโ€™t be, then make certain adjustments. If you donโ€™t, you are going to get into trouble with the court that made the order.โ€
