The United States said on Monday it will continue to support Israel to prevent any escalation in hostilities with Iran.
The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, said Israel wouldnโt have to defend itself alone against Iranโs oppression.
He disclosed this at the start of a meeting with Iraqโs Deputy Prime Minister, Mohammed Ali Tamim.
Blinken, who called Iranโs actions unprecedented, said: โWe donโt seek escalation, but weโll continue to support the defence of Israel and to protect our personnel in the region.
โWhat this weekend demonstrated is that Israel did not have to and does not have to defend itself alone when it is the victim of aggression, the victim of an attack.โ
Over the weekend, Iran launched a barrage of over 300 drones and missiles at Israel, in retaliation for the April 1 strike on Iranโs consulate in Syria that killed some of its generals.
However, most of the missiles and drones were intercepted with the help of the US, France and other allies.
