The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State has petitioned the National Judicial Council (NJC) over alleged uncomplimentary comments credited to Justice Benson Anya, against the party and its members.

The state Chairman of the party, Hashimu Dungurawa announced the development while speaking with journalists in Kano State.

OsunDailyNG understands that Justice Anya, while delivering judgment on the Kano governorship elections, had allegedly said, โ€œInstead of some Kano politicians to be allowed to use banditry and violence to abort democracy in Kano State, justice will be used to stop them from destroying democracy in Kano and upward.โ€

Reacting to the judgeโ€™s statementย  Dungurawa lamented that the Judicial Council had given its verdict out of sentiments.

He stated that the party had petitioned the NJC over the judgeโ€™s remarks and they would eventually see if it was right for him to give a verdict based on unfounded death threats.

โ€œWe shall see whether he is right to use personal sentiments and quashed our victory and also seeks justice on this.

โ€œA judge cannot just sit down because of unfounded death threats to be impartial in our judgement. This clearly showed us that you are not being fair and just in this election verdict.

โ€œWe are not taking lightly the comments credited to Justice Anya that, โ€˜the gang of red cap wearers who, are like a violent and terrorist cult, chased us out of Kano and put us in the fear of our lives.โ€

The NNPP Chairman vehemently objected to the language used by Anya, adding that it was unbecoming of a Judge and defender of justice and the rule of law.

โ€œOf course, these libelous, and outright condemnable comments credited to the panel and especially those portions where Justice Benson Anya went beyond his judicial bounds of immunity and acted as if he is an interested party in the matter by casting aspersions on the leadership and members of NNPP,โ€ he added.
