Suspected killers of the retired President of the Customary Court of Appeal, Makurdi, Benue State, Justice Margaret Igbetar, have narrated how they killed her for allegedly withholding documents to a family land belonging to one of them.

DAILY POST recalls that Justice Igbetar was killed in August by gunmen who invaded her residence at Wantor Kwange Street, opposite the School of Medicine, Benue State University, Makurdi and killed her.

Her relatives discovered her decomposed remains a few days later.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Batholomew Onyeka, had paraded the suspects including her nephew, Aondohemba Joseph, her driver, and a security man.

The suspected leader of the murderous gang, Joseph, who is also the deceasedโ€™s nephew, claimed she had in her possession documents of his fatherโ€™s landed property.

Joseph said, โ€œShe (the late judge) was my aunt and she had the documents of my fatherโ€™s landed property and when we asked her, she was not forthcoming about it.

โ€œSo, I had to arrange with others. Meanwhile, I was not the one who stabbed her, it was Dzungwenen Ukor.โ€

Ukor, who confirmed stabbing the deceased, said Joseph asked him to stab her because she refused to release the documents of his fatherโ€™s property he said was in her possession.

โ€œHe asked me to stab her and I did that because he had accused the woman of withholding documents of his fatherโ€™s landed property,โ€ Ukor said.

Another suspect, Akuhwa Barnabas, 32, who was recruited as a driver to the deceased home two months before the incident, said he was only asked to man the gate.

He said, โ€œI was recruited as a driver to the deceased two months before the incident and truly, they contacted me that when they get the documents and sell the property, they would settle me.

โ€œSo, I was told to be at the gate and not allow anyone to enter and the moment they finished, they left and I also ran away to avoid arrest.

The suspects are currently in custody helping with police investigation.
