The Kano State Government has disclosed that it has spent N1.5 billion on payment of National Examination Council (NECO) registration fees of 57,000 students of various secondary schools in the state.

About three weeks ago, OsunDailyNG reported that the Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf-led government of Kano State approved the payment of examination fees for 55,000 students in the state that will be sitting for the 2023 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination organised by the National Examination Council (NECO).

The governor, in a statement issued then by his Chief Press Secretary, Sanusi Bature,  said the development was part of his government’s policy to reposition the educational sector and give it the needed attention.

He urged the benefiting students to work hard for better results and to reciprocate the gesture to justify the enormous investments made by the state government in order not to halt their educational pursuits.

In a fresh statement, the governor reiterated that the payment of the fees was part of his government’s policy to reposition the educational sector for optimal performance.

Yusuf made this disclosure while opening the commencement of the examinations at Rumfa College in the state’s metropolis.

The governor, in a statement issued by the Press Secretary to the state Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Shuaib, admonished the student to justify the payment and the state’s massive investment by facing their academics

Yusuf, who his deputy, Alhaji Aminu Gwarzo, represented, said, “You need to put in your best and remain committed so that you can come up with good results on the examination, that can make the state and your family happy and proud of you.”
