As water scarcity continues to bite harder in Kano and its environs, the state government has explained that the problem was not intentional and assured that serious measures are being taken to ensure adequate supply for the citizens.

The Kano State Water Board, in a jingle, said it was on top of the situation and promised a turnaround soon. According to the board, the scarcity was a result of ongoing repair work at its water treatment plants at Challawa and Tamburawa.

While appealing to the residents to exercise patience, the board said the repair work was about to be completed.

โ€œWe sincerely apologise for the water scarcity being experienced in the state. It is not deliberate. The scarcity was caused by repair works currently taking place at our treatment plants at Challawa and Tamburawa. The work is currently going on and will be done in the next few days,โ€ the board stated in the jingle.

OsunDailyNG observed an acute scarcity of water in the city as residents were seen queueing up at tap and borehole spots to fetch water at a very exorbitant price. Taking advantage of the situation, water vendors have been doing brisk business as they hiked the price of a jerry can of water from N50 to N150.

Some of the residents who expressed concerns over the situation lamented that the scarcity hit the state at a time when water is needed the most as Muslims observe the fast.
