Osun State chapter of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, CDHR, has asked organised labour to demand from the state government an implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, on wage award it signed with the Federal Government.

This was contained in a letter signed by the Osun CDHR chairman, Emmanuel Olowu and addressed to the chairpersons of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, Trade Union Congress, TUC, and Joint Negotiation Council, JNC, on Monday.

DAILY POST recalls that on October 2, 2023, organised labour signed an MoU with the Federal Government, part of which is the implementation of the thirty five thousand Naira (โ‚ฆ35,000) wage award to all Federal Civil Servants.

In the letter, obtained by DAILY POST, the Osun CDHR also said the appeal became necessary so that the state can fast track the necessary protocols and implement the wage award meant to mitigate the subsidy removal pains.

โ€œWe write to inspire you to demand from the Osun State Government, the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the Federal Government of Nigeria, Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) on the 2nd Day Of October 2023, part of which is the implementation of the Thirty-Five Thousand Naira (โ‚ฆ35,000) Wage Award by the Federal Government to all Federal Civil Service workers.

โ€œIt should be noted that some chapters of your union in other states have approached their state Governors while Osun state has not been seen to be taking the step forward.

โ€œWe therefore charge the leadership of the union to engage the state Government on the wage award implementation and press forward the struggles for a better Nigeria,โ€ it stated.
