Barring any last-minute changes, the tenth Ogun State House of Assembly would be inaugurated on Tuesday, June 20.

The inauguration of the 10th Assembly will also include the election of a new Speaker, Deputy Speaker and other principal officers of the House.

DAILY POST recalls that the inauguration earlier scheduled for June 13 was postponed without any reason by the Clerk, Deji Adeyemo.

With less than 24 hours to the new date, some of the members-elect said they could not confirm whether or not the event would hold, seeing precedent in the way the first one was called off last week.

It could be recalled that a member-elect from Abeokuta Constituency, Lukmon Atobatele, had called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun to put its house in order and conclude on who would be the next Speaker instead of postponing immigration.

Our correspondent gathered that, as at the time of filing this report, the APC is yet to achieve a consensus on the next principal officers, especially the Speaker.

It was gathered that the immediate past Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo, is seeking to return to the seat he vacated about two weeks ago.

But, there are persons who are not pleased with his style of leadership and the N2.5bn fraud charge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed against him.

Reliable sources confided in our correspondent that top Ogun indigenes in 2019 prevailed on Hon. Oludaisi Elemide of Odeda Constituency to step down for Oluomo to emerge Speaker.

In return, Oluomo was quoted to have made promises to Elemide and some and his team back then, assuring them that they would not regret their decision to let him have the number one post.

However, a source disclosed that, โ€œOluomo did not fulfill any of the promises he made. Instead, he ruled like an emperor, fighting any member who tried to question his authority to the extent of sacking his former deputy, Dare Kadiri.โ€

At the moment, the said Elemide is said to be back in the race for the post of Speaker.

Whether or not Elemide would fight till the end, time will tell.
