Controversial Nigerian media personality Ifedayo Olarinde, aka Daddy Freeze, has said South African singer Tyla deserved her victory over Nigerian artists at the 66th Grammys.
OsunDailyNG reports that the Nigerian quintet of Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, Davido, Asake, and Olamide were snubbed at the 66th Grammys on Sunday, with Tyla, the only non-Nigerian nominee in the maiden Best African Music Performance category, picking up the award.
Some aggrieved Nigerian music fans questioned the choice of Tylaโs โWaterโ over hit songs by Nigerian artists, accusing the Recording Academy of complicity.
However, reacting during a recent Instagram live session with fans, Daddy Freeze insisted that Tylaโs Grammy win was well deserved.
He said: โTylaโs Grammy win over Nigerian artists was not ojoro [scam]. I donโt see the ojoro. Iโm struggling to see the ojoro.
โGlobally, in my opinion, โWaterโ was a slightly bigger song [than Nigerian songs nominated]. It doesnโt mean those songs were not big. They were very big. Itโs just that โWaterโ has more vitality. It is massive on Tiktok.โ
