Nigeria has affirmed its participation in the upcoming joint Arab-Islamic Summit, citing its strong ties and proximity to the Middle East as key reasons for engagement.

The summit is set to commence on Monday, November 11, 2024, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed that President Bola Tinubu will use the platform to address the ongoing Israel-Palestinian conflict, underscoring Nigeriaโ€™s call for an immediate ceasefire and advocating for a diplomatic solution.

Idris, speaking to journalists in Riyadh, emphasized Nigeriaโ€™s unwavering stance that peace can only be achieved through dialogue, not warfare.

โ€œWe must come to find a diplomatic solution and this is exactly what we are seeking here,โ€ the minister said.

He noted that Nigeriaโ€™s participation highlights its role as an influential voice on the global stage, pushing for peaceful resolutions to conflicts that have far-reaching implications.

โ€œNigeria feels that unless a diplomatic solution is found, this conflict may engulf the entire region and potentially extend its impact globally,โ€ Idris added.

Experts have long argued that a two-state solution, enabling Israel and Palestine to coexist within secure borders, is the path to lasting peace.

Echoing this sentiment, Idris reiterated Nigeriaโ€™s consistent support for this approach.

โ€œWe must go back to the root of the matter,โ€ he said, advocating for the coexistence of both nations in peace and security.

The current escalation in hostilities began with a Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,200 people and the capture of around 251 hostages, further intensifying tensions in the region.
