Ayo Adebanjo, leader of Pan Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has said President Bola Tinubuโs continuous stay in the Aso Villa is condemnable by โall responsible people in the world,โ reiterating the position of main opposition parties that Mr Tinubu and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), did not legitimately win the February 25 presidential election.
โThe way he got there is not right. It is questionable, it is condemnable by all responsible people in the whole world,โ he said on Monday while he appeared on Arise TV.
Mr Adebanjo said he would not recognise Mr Tinubu as president regardless of his recent strides that many commentators have praised as right efforts to set the country on the right track.
He added that he and his group are currently disputing the results of the election that made Mr Tinubu president.
โIs it not on the presidency that Iโm disputing? Is it not on the fact that he is the president that I say well you canโt be there on the condition provided by the constitution, which I am still disputing, I canโt recognise him in an office that I believe doesnโt exist.
โI donโt want to say he has been doing well, he is not doing well. It is through me that God made him the governor of Lagos stateโฆ I am not commenting on his ability now.
โThe stand of Afenifere is that we want a free, fair and credible election,โ he said.
Mr Adebanjo and the Afenifere group publicly declared support for the candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, before and during the election.
Despite INECโs announcement, the party believes that it won the election and has spent the last five weeks arguing for an upturning of APCโs victory before the presidential election petition court (PEPC).ย
The party, alongside the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), closed its case on June 23, giving a week break for the respondents to prepare and open their defence.
