President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said Nigerians will soon get palliatives to cushion the effect of the fuel subsidy removal.
The Nigerian leader made the disclosure on Wednesday when he received Class of 1999 Governors at the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja.
The ex-governors were at the State House to identify with Tinubu, who was the governor of Lagos State from May 1999 to 2007, and to express solidarity over his recent policies since his assumption of office as Nigeriaโs President on May 29, 2023.
Earlier, the president wrote to the National Assembly seeking an amendment to the 2022 supplementary appropriation Act.
OsunDailyNG understands that this is to allow the Federal Government source N500 billion for palliative to cushion the effect of subsidy removal.
This was disclosed in aย letter read on the floor of the House during Wednesdayโs plenary by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.
In the letter, the President said the money will be sourced from the 2022 Supplementary Appropriation Act of N819. 5 billion.
The Speaker said the House will consider Tinubuโs request at plenary on Thursday and asked members willing to make contributions to be prepared to โdo soโ.
