President Bola Tinubu has paid tribute to the late Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, former governor of the old Abia State and former Minister of Science and Technology, describing him as a great reformer and a steadfast advocate for Nigeriaโs progress, unity, and stability.
Represented by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, at the burial held in Dr. Onuโs Uburรบ country home in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, President Tinubu highlighted the significant contributions Onu made to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and to the nation.
โHis passing is a profound loss to the party and Nigeria as a whole,โ Tinubuโs message stated.
Dr. Onu was praised for his peaceful nature and his exemplary leadership qualities, attributes that endeared him to many across political and social divides.
The burial ceremony drew a notable array of dignitaries, including Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election; Governors Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), Peter Mba (Enugu), and Alex Otti (Abia); as well as Deputy Governors Onyekachi Ibezim (Anambra) and representatives from Imo State.
The event also saw the presence of APC National Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, and former Senate Presidents, Chief Pius Anyim and Chief Ken Nnamani, among other distinguished Nigerians.
