The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the 28th of September, 2022 lifted a ban on the 2023 presidential campaign.
Following the directives of the electoral body, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in its effort to take over power in 2023 has inaugurated its presidential campaign council and commenced its campaigns.
However, the likes of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party, and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) 14 days after the ban on the campaign was lifted have failed to commence their campaign.
APC
The ruling party, APC has been held back over the grievances of some party members on the composition of the list of the presidential campaign council.
Some governors and members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party are not pleased with the campaign list which was released by the secretary of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, James Faleke.
Some governors claimed that their nominees were not included in the campaign council.
The development saw the director general of the APC Presidential Campaign Council and Plateau State governor, Simon Lalong announce the postponement of their inauguration to the campaign council to allow more members to come on board.
The spokesman of the APC Presidential Campaign Council and Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo (SAN), on Tuesday while speaking with Daily Trust said the final list would be released this week, after which a date for the formal commencement of campaign would be announced.
He said, โThe other list will be released this week. Then the date (for campaign kick-off) will be announced.โ
Labour Party
The National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Arabambi Abayomi while giving the reason for the delay in the campaign of the party in a chat with Daily Trust said the party has ample time to put its campaigns together.
According to Abayomi, the campaign council of the fast-growing party will be all-inclusive, adding that LP is the only party that has a manifesto.
He added that the party in the next few days will inaugurate its campaign council.
NNPP
A source within the party, while speaking about NNPP’s delay to commence the campaign, said the campaign council of the party will soon be inaugurated and campaigns will kick off.
According to the source, the delay in the party is due to logistics issues as the party was still tidying up the presidential campaign headquarters in Abuja.
He further stated that once the issue is fixed, it will be open for use, the council will be constituted, and they will start work there.
