The Taraba Tiv Supreme Council has appealed to Governor Agbu Kefas to expedite action on the resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and bolster security in farming communities across the state to ensure food security.
Appealing on Tuesday in a communiquรฉ issued to journalists in Jalingo, the state capital, shortly after its 5th Supreme Council Meeting, the council urged the governor to facilitate the safe return of displaced persons to their ancestral homes
Additionally, the council called for enhanced security measures to enable farmers to access their fields and contribute to overall food security.
Acknowledging the governorโs recent appointments, the council expressed gratitude while appealing for more Tiv representation in future governmental positions.
The council also stressed the importance of the state government providing agricultural inputs to farmers to boost food production for the state and the nation.
Furthermore, the council called on Tiv stakeholders and traditional rulers in various local government areas of the state to actively discourage crime and promote a culture of security awareness.
Emphasising unity, love, and tolerance as vital components for development, the council urged all Tiv people to embrace these values.
During its meeting, the council ratified the change in the nomenclature of the Tiv Traditional Leadersโ Council from โTer Tarabaโ to โGum Begha u Tiv Taraba.โ
