Taraba boat mishap: Police recover seven corpses

The Taraba State Police Command on Monday said it has recovered seven corpses from the recent boat mishap in the state.

The Police Command, which disclosed this in a statement, however said the number of passengers in the boat could not be ascertained.

Residents of the state were on Saturday thrown into mourning following the boat accident which occured in Mayoranewo village of Ardo-Kola local government council.

The boat which took off from Mayoranewo Market in Ardo-Kola council, was said to have been heading to Karim-Lamido, a nearby council, when it capsized on reaching Binnari village waterway.

โ€œCurrently, seven corpses have been recovered,โ€ the statement by the Taraba State Police Command said.

โ€œOn receipt of the information, Taraba State Police Command immediately deployed operatives of the Marine Police to the area in collaboration with the local divers and fishermen residing at the river bank.โ€

The Command said the search to rescue those alive, and recover the corpses of the drowned passengers, is still ongoing.

DAILY POST findings show that there were over fifty passengers on the boat that took off from the Mayoranewo market heading to different villages in Karim-Lamido local government council.
