Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, has invited opposition leaders to rally efforts with the government towards developing the state.
Addressing newsmen at her office in Yola just before noon Wednesday in reaction to the Supreme Court verdict affirming her joint election with Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, Kaletapwa said now is the time for all Adamawa people to concentrate on development efforts.
“The Supreme Court has brought things to rest. It is time for earnest governance. This state is ours. We call on all citizens, including all who contested with us, to let’s put our heads together with the government to bring development to our people. We are one big family,” the Deputy governor said.
Earlier, Wednesday, the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal by the state governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2023 election, Senator Aishatu Dahiru, Binani.
The court ruled that Binani’s suit lacked merit. Justice John Okoro, who read the lead judgement, held that the act of the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Hudu Yunusa-Ari in declaring Binani winner of the election was an act of criminality as he was not the right person to declare Binani winner even if Binani truly won the election.
OsunDailyNG recalls that Hudu had declared Binani winner of the March 2023 governorship election in Adamawa State when results of some LGAs were yet to be collated and when she was being led in terms of votes by the eventual winner, Ahmadu Fintiri.
Binani had insisted, however, that the declaration of her as the winner should stand and she had gone to the tribunal and Court of Appeal, both of which dismissed her arguments and then to the Supreme Court, which by its judgement, Wednesday morning put the whole drama on hold.
