The Supreme Court of Nigeria has reserved its judgement in the gubernatorial dispute between Air Marshal Sadeeq Baba Abubakar (retd), the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2023 elections and the incumbent governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
DAILY POST reports that Abubakar and APC are contesting the recent Court of Appeal decision that upheld Mohammed’s election, alleging violations of the electoral act.
They asked the Supreme Court to overturn the Court of Appeal’s decision that upheld Mohammed’s election.
During Thursday’s hearing, senior counsel to APC argued that the appellate court overlooked crucial issues, including purported non-compliance with the Electoral Act during the election process.
However, Chris Uche, counsel to Governor Mohammed, urged the Supreme Court to uphold the appellate court’s decision, arguing that it aligns with sections 148 and 135 of the Electoral Act.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the five-man panel, led by Justice John Inyang Okoro, announced that the date for the judgement would be communicated to all parties involved in due course.
