Super Falcons midfielder Deborah Abiodun has made a significant move to the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) by signing with Washington Spirit.
Deborah Abiodun, who is currently 21-year-old signed a three-year contract with the American club. The contract comes with an option for an additional year.
Having transitioned from Pittsburgh Panthers, where she showcased her talent by scoring 10 goals and providing two assists in 34 appearances, Abiodun is eager to bring her skills to Washington Spirit.
After sealing the new move, the Super Falcons star told the club’s website that it has always been her dream to join the side.
“I’m beyond thrilled to take this next step in my career by joining Washington Spirit,” she said. “This isn’t just a dream; it’s a purpose I’ve poured my heart and soul into, and I’m ready to give everything I have to the game I love.”
In other news, Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo is keen on retaining Nigerian defender Ola Aina amidst growing interest from both Manchester City and Galatasaray.
Aina’s impressive performances have garnered attention from various clubs, prompting Nuno to stress the importance of maintaining squad stability as the January transfer window approaches. “You never know what is going to happen in the transfer window, but our goal is to keep our players intact,” Nuno shared with Sky Sports.
Aina, 28, whose current contract runs until the end of the 2024-2025 season, can now negotiate with non-English clubs. Turkish champions Galatasaray have expressed interest in acquiring him, though securing his signature may prove challenging.

Man City expert Steven McInerney has referred to signing Aina as a “no-brainer” considering his current market value of €14 million, particularly when compared to other targets like Fulham’s Antonee Robinson.
