Ivorian-born tactician, Eric Chelle reportedly accepted a pay cut to become the head coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
OsunDailyNG reported that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) appointed Eric Chelle as the head coach of the Super Eagles on Tuesday, January 7.
Reports from SCORENigeria indicate that the former Mali national team head coach has taken a pay cut compared to his previous position at Algerian club MC Oran.
The 47-year-old coach, who recently stepped down from his role at MC Oran, is expected to arrive in Abuja on Sunday to finalize a two-year contract with the Super Eagles. His primary objective will be to revitalize Nigeria’s quest for success in the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Currently, the Super Eagles find themselves in fifth place in Group C, having secured just three points from four matches. Looking ahead, the team will face Amavubi of Rwanda and the Warriors of Zimbabwe when the qualifiers resume in March.
As reported by BSNSports.com.ng, Coach Eric Chelle will earn a monthly salary of $55,000, which is equivalent to approximately ₦84,984,900.00.
Chelle will be accompanied by two assistants, each earning $5,000 per month.
The new coach’s immediate responsibilities include overseeing the Super Eagles B team as they prepare for the 2025 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) set to take place in Morocco starting February 1, 2025.
A key focus of his tenure will be to guide the Super Eagles toward qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and his experience will be invaluable in this endeavour.
