In response to the challenges Nigerians face with identification verification, particularly the long queues at National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) offices, the commission has introduced a more convenient option for updating National Identification Number (NIN) details.

NIMC, which is responsible for managing Nigeriaโ€™s national identity database, has become a critical part of the identification process for millions of Nigerians.

However, the stress associated with physical visits to NIMC offices has been a source of frustration for many.

In a move to streamline the process and reduce the logistical hurdles, NIMC has released a comprehensive do-it-yourself (DIY) guide that allows individuals to modify their NIN details from the comfort of their homes.

According to information retrieved from NIMCโ€™s social media handles late Wednesday, this step-by-step guide offers a clear pathway for Nigerians to update personal information such as name, address, and date of birth, without the need to visit a physical office.

This initiative aims to ease the process of updating NIN details, saving Nigerians the time and effort required to queue at NIMC centres.

The NIN serves as a unique identifier for Nigerian citizens and legal residents in various administrative processes, including accessing government services, opening bank accounts, and verifying identity.

With this new option, NIMC hopes to reduce congestion at its offices and make the identity management process smoother for all Nigerians.

To be eligible to use the NIMC short code, make sure your phone number has met the following requirements:

โ€“ Make sure your phone number is linked to your NIN registration to use this shortcode service.

โ€“ Modification requests are subject to verification and approval by NIMC.

โ€“ You may be charged a fee for the modification service.
