Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji has advocated gender equality in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, STEM.

He made the call in his speech, on Sunday, in commemoration of this yearโ€™s International Day for women and girls in science, tagged โ€œWomen and Girls in Science Leadership โ€” a New Era for Sustainability.โ€

He noted that: โ€œdespite strides towards progress, gender equality in STEM, remains an elusive goal, as women are usually relegated to the background on key STEM issues.โ€

He called for equality, saying: โ€œto harness the transformative power of Science and Technology, we must ensure that every voice, regardless of gender, is heard and valued.โ€

He assured girls dreaming of a future in science that their curiosity, intellect and passion mattered โ€œand they are not just scientists of tomorrow, but are the scientists of today.โ€

He called on women already blazing trails in science to remember the importance of lifting others as they climbed.

He acknowledged that their mentorship, advocacy and support could inspire the next generation of female scientists to reach even greater heights.

Nnaji called for the creation of an environment where every woman and girl feel empowered to pursue their passion for discovery and exploration.

He said: โ€œLet us break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and create pathways for success of all.โ€
