Members of staff and students of the Federal University of Agriculture, Akure, FECA, Ondo State, on Friday cried out over the activities of land grabbers within the institution.
The staff and students staged a protest over the encroachment of lands belonging to the university.
Armed with placards with various inscriptions, the protesters moved from the gate of the institution to the Zone 17 office of the Police Area Command, after which they took their grievances to the Governorโs Office and also to the palace of Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi.
Some of the inscriptions on the placards read, โDonโt send FECA into extinctionโ, โRescue FECA from land grabbersโ, โFECA land is not for saleโ, โFederal Government should come to FECAโs aidโ, โAllow FECA to breatheโ.
The Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of the university, Kayode Sule, said the activities of the land grabbers have been affecting the training of students in various agricultural fields.
While calling on the Federal Government to intervene in the situation, Sule described the activities of land grabbers as illegal.
โWhat is going on is that we have had this problem of land grabbers coming from time to time to disturb us in the college.
โAs we are speaking now, they are right inside the college, bulldozing lands, destroying economic trees, destroying those things that we use in the training of our students.โ
