The youth wing of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the Southwest region has taken a swipe at their counterparts in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, over the ultimatum given to Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, to return to the state from his Ibadan abode.
While revealing that Akeredolu will soon return to the state, the APC youths, who converged on Akure, the state capital, yesterday, stated that there is no vacuum in the governance of the state as being insinuated.
During a press briefing, the youth leader of the party in the region, Comrade Kolade Lawal, emphasised that Akeredoluโs absence from the state was solely to recuperate and regain his strength.
The youth wing of the PDP had on Monday given Akeredolu a three-day ultimatum to return to the state or resign from office.
โHe (Akeredolu) will join us in a few daysโ time, but not in line with the threat of the opposition parties. The Ondo state government does not owe a dime of salary. The governor is in Ibadan. It is important for him to rest.
โActivities of governance are ongoing. He is fast recuperating. He had Zoom meetings with Obas and other groups. He has been talking to people.
โWe are optimistic that he will soon make a complete recovery and physically join us. In the story of creation, even God rested on the seventh day, recognising the importance of rest and rejuvenation.
โThe decision of Governor Akeredolu to seek rest and adjust his normal work schedule to allow him to fully recover is a testament to his human nature, reminding us that even leaders are not exempted from the trials of flesh and blood.
โLetโs not forget the days of Mr. Governorโs struggle for us. He stood firm and defended Ondo State and the Southwest as a whole when herdsmen went on a killing spree around here. He has been a strong pillar and voice for the voiceless. We owe him this understanding and trust. Heโs been a leader for all season,โ he said.
