The Nigerian Army, 6 Division, Port Harcourt, has confirmed the death of a soldier in a boat mishap that occurred on the Bolo waterway, in Ogu-Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The Acting Deputy Director, 6 Division Army Public Relations, Major Danjuma Jonah, in a statement, said the soldier was killed over the weekend while on active duty.
He noted that a gunboat carrying the late soldier was hit by a turbulent wave, which threw him overboard, and he was nowhere to be found.
The statement said a search and rescue mission was launched which led to the recovery of the soldier’s lifeless body and the boat involved in the accident.
According to the statement, Jonah said the late soldier paid the supreme sacrifice in the defence of his fatherland and service to humanity, adding that the Nigerian Army would greatly miss him.
