The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly NSHA, Danladi Jatau, has expressed concern over the falling standard of education in the state, despite increased budgetary allocations.

Jatau spoke on Tuesday while receiving staff from the state-owned College of Education, Akwanga, in Nasarawa West District.

The Speaker, who represents Kokona West Constituency, called for collaboration among stakeholders in order to revamp and improve the education sector, stating the importance of instilling moral values and providing quality education to children.

โ€œYou are saddled with the responsibility of inculcating good moral values on our children.

โ€œYou are the future builder, we are looking up to you for quality education in the state.

โ€œThe truth is that the standard of education is falling in the state, letโ€™s all hands be on deck to improve on it,โ€ Jatau said.

He urged students to prioritize their studies over social media activities, noting the impact of distractions on academic performance.

โ€œIn those days, we devoted our time to reading but these days, most students use their time to chat on social media among other things,โ€ Jatau added.

While acknowledging Governor Abdullahi Suleโ€™s commitment to the education sector, Jatau pledged the Assemblyโ€™s support for policies aimed at improving education standards, and assured the Collegeโ€™s staff of his readiness to address their challenges.

Mr Odagboyi Isaiah, the Deputy Provost (Academic) of the College of Education, Akwanga, earlier congratulated Jatau on his emergence as Speaker and sought his intervention in addressing the Collegeโ€™s challenges, which include issues relating to promotion, infrastructure and payment of about N1.9 billion backlog of gratuity.
