Six employees of the Ebonyi State Ministry of Health, have been arrested for allegedly stealing government property.
OsunDailyNG gathered that the suspects were caught on Saturday night at the ministry’s premises while attempting to transport the stolen items for sale.
The information was revealed on Sunday in a press statement issued by the Governor Francis Nwifuru‘s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor.
The statement revealed that the Governor has ordered their prosecution, describing the act as sabotage against the state’s health sector.
The governor, addressing the situation at the scene, condemned the act as a sabotage against the government’s initiatives to improve the health sector.
“I have not been in office for almost two years but I have spent more than N6bn buying equipment for the primary health care centers and the general hospitals.
“And this is what you people, the store keepers, are doing. You are selling government documents without approval on a Saturday afternoon.
“Our hospitals in the rural areas are requesting for registers and data entry forms and hospital cards. Sadly, the ones the government has produced are being sold by you,” the governor lamented.
The suspects have been handed over to the police for further investigation.
