The Southern Governors’ Forum (SGF) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing his passing as a great loss to the nation.
In a statement issued on behalf of the Forum’s Chairman, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, the SGF said Buhari’s death was a moment of national reflection on the values he embodied.
“The Southern Governors’ Forum extends its heartfelt condolences to the nation following the unfortunate passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari. The loss of the former president marks a profound moment of reflection for all Nigerians” the statement partly reads.
The governors noted that Buhari, who led the country both as a military ruler and a democratically elected president, was dedicated to public service and the advancement of the country. They commended his efforts in promoting national development, security, unity, and democracy.
“He was a leader who understood the intricacies of Nigeria’s diverse society and sought to foster a sense of belonging among all citizens. His legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire future generations of leaders.” The forum added.
The SGF also urged Nigerians to honour Buhari’s memory by upholding the ideals he stood for.
They prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and urged the public to honor his lifetime by recognizing the positive impact he had on countless lives.
In a related development Former Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya (Rtd), CFR also extolled the virtue of the late president in a condolence message.
He expressed deep sorrow over the loss and extended his condolences to his family, the government and the general public describing late Buhari as a visionary leader “whose legacy will continue to guide generations yet unborn”
The retired lieutenant general also recalled how Buhari provided him with support and guidance in the fight against insecurity during his tenure “Under his leadership, the Nigerian Army became more professional, better equipped, and more effectively trained to tackle contemporary security challenges. I am proud of the accomplishments recorded during my tenure. These achievements are directly attributed to President Buhari’s visionary leadership, guidance and commitment to national security.” He wrote.
He also prayed for the soul of the departed former president describing him as a patriot “Nigeria has lost a patriot. Africa has lost a statesman. Humanity has lost a man of honour. May Almighty Allah grant his soul eternal rest and reward his noble deeds with Aljannatul Firdaus, amen.”
Similarly, Senate President Godswill Akpabio also expressed sadness over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a statesman and a leader known for integrity.
In a statement he personally signed, Akpabio condoled with President Bola Tinubu, the people of Katsina State, and Buhari’s family, especially his wife Aisha and their children.
He said Buhari was a disciplined military officer who later became a strong democratic leader and the first opposition candidate to defeat a sitting president in Nigeria.
“I worked with him as a minister and can say he lived a simple life and always thought about the people,” he said.
He prayed for God to comfort Buhari’s family and for Allah to grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
Former President Muhammad Buhari died on Sunday in London at the age of 82 after battling a prolonged illness.
The vice president Kashim Shettima and chief of staff Femi Gbajabiamila have been ordered to escort his remains home by President Tinubu where he will be buried in line with islamic rites.

‘National tragedy’ — Emir of Daura mourns Buhari

The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruk, has described the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari as a national tragedy and a painful loss to the people of Daura Emirate, Katsina State, and the nation at large.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the Daura Palace on Monday, the royal father said the death of the former president was a great loss to Nigeria and the entire African continent.
The traditional ruler said the news of Buhari’s death came as a huge shock to them.
Faruk said, “We have lost a true son of Daura,a pillar of honesty,and one of the most selfless leaders Nigeria has ever produced.”
He praised Buhari’s legacy of public service, stating that his contributions to national development, security reforms, and anti-corruption efforts would never be forgotten.
“President Buhari stood for truth, justice, and accountability.
“He lived a modest life and placed national interest above personal gain.
“His passing is a reminder of the great sacrifices he made for this country,” the emir added.
While praying for the repose of his soul, Faruk called on Nigerians to continue upholding the values Buhari stood for — unity, discipline, and service.
“We extend our deepest condolences to his family, especially Hajiya Aisha Buhari and their children.”
Also,the Chaorman, Daura Local Government, Alhaji Bala Musa, described Buhari as a man of principle who lived a life of simplicity, devotion to Islam, and service to the nation.
“We in Daura feel a deep personal loss. He was our father, our mentor, and a proud son of the soil.
“His humility and honesty will continue to inspire generations,”he said
Musa urged the citizens of Daura and Nigerians at large to remain peaceful and united during this period of mourning.

‘Colossal loss’ – Mbah mourns Buhari, hails forthrightness, patriotism

Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, has expressed deep grief over the passing of former President, Mohammad Buhari, describing it as a colossal loss to the entire nation.
Reacting to the sad development, Governor Mbah, in a condolence message personally signed by him on Sunday, described Buhari as one of the most patriotic and honest Nigerian leaders to have ever led the country.
“President Buhari made his entrance into Nigerian governance space in 1984 and 2015. On both occasions, his pedigrees of truthfulness, integrity and patriotism stood out. He demonstrated his unwavering commitment to the ideals of nationhood.
“He was an embodiment of service and dedication to the fatherland. His life was a lesson to upcoming leaders that leadership is about the downtrodden and the vast number of people who needed development.
” His public service career was glittering and outstanding. His simplicity and forthrightness were virtues that endeared him to millions across Nigeria, and even beyond.
“Although he leaves behind a void that will be difficult to fill, there is much comfort in the fact that his life was an inspiration, and his vast legacies are engraved in the sands of time.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Enugu State, I mourn the passing of this astute General, a committed patriot and a leader whose engaging persona was circumscribed round Nigeria and its people.
“I offer my sincerest condolences to his immediate family, the Government and people of Katsina State, the Federal Government and the entire people of Nigeria,” he stated.
Mbah prayed that Almighty God would grant the soul of the late president an eternal repose.

NPFL: Katsina United invite five players for screening

Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, Katsina United has invited five players for screening.
The players are goalkeeper Umar Yusuf, Nasir Ahmed, Kabir Mohammed Kabir, Usman Abdallahi and Hassan Abubakar.
The players were selected from non-league clubs across Katsina State.
They are all expected to resume at the club’s Secretariat on Monday, July 14th.
The players invitation was contained in a letter signed by the Chanji Boys secretary Salah Yusuf on Sunday.
Katsina United are currently beefing up their squad for the upcoming season.
The 2025-26 campaign will commence on Friday, 22 August.
