The Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ireti Kingibe, has called on relevant authorities to put more effort into reviving the nationโ€™s education.

OsunDailyNG reports that Senator Kingibe said education remains the pathway to personal growth and national development.

In a statement on the International Day of Education, the Labour Party Senator stated that the theme โ€˜AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automationโ€™ served as a clarion call for all to prioritize education.

โ€œAs we join the global community to commemorate the International Day of Education, we are reminded of the profound truth that education is the foundation upon which nations rise, societies thrive, and individuals achieve their fullest potential. Education is not just a pathway to personal growth but a cornerstone of national development, innovation, and equity.

โ€œAs the Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, I stand deeply committed to investing in and repositioning our educational institutions to meet the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. The theme of this yearโ€™s International Day of Education serves as a clarion call for us all to prioritize education as a fundamental right and an indispensable tool for progress,โ€ she said.

The FCT Senator, however, decried disparity in the education system of the Capital City. She highlighted unqualified teachers, and poor infrastructures as challenges affecting education in her constituency.

โ€œDespite the transformative power of education, millions of children and young adults across Nigeria still lack access to quality learning environments. This reality undermines our aspirations as a nation. In the FCT, we face the dual burden of urban and rural disparities, with children in underserved communities bearing the brunt of inadequate infrastructure, underqualified teachers, and insufficient resources. These challenges demand urgent, collective action,โ€ she stated.

Senator Kingibe called for a collective effort of all stakeholders to address the challenges. She reaffirmed her commitment to promoting inclusive education.

โ€œEducation is a shared responsibility. While the government plays a critical role, parents, private institutions, and the broader community must also contribute to building a robust and inclusive educational system. We must collectively commit to making education accessible, equitable, and impactful,โ€ she added.
