Former president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) Segun Arinze has announced that he will be playing the role of Moshood Abiola in a biopic about the late politician’s wife Kudirat Abiola.
The 57-year-old actor via his Instagram shared a picture of himself from the movie set on Friday.
He wore an agbada designed like the one Abiola wore to the polling booth on June 12, 1993.
“What does this remind you of?” Segun Arinze captioned his post.
Nigerian politician Moshood Kashimawo Olawale, also known as MKO, in 1993 contested and won the June 12 general election on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
However, the then military-ruler General Ibrahim Babangida annulled the election.
Abiola was arrested and jailed by Babangida’s successor General Sani Abacha.
His wife Kudirat was assassinated by suspected government agents on June 4, 1996 while her husband was in detention.
Abiola himself died in detention on July 7, 1998, one month after Abacha’s death.
