A combined team of security forces including troops of the Nigerian Army, Police, and other security agencies have raided the hideouts and training camps of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militant arm, the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Orsomoghu Forest spanning Anambra and Imo States.
A statement by the Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu revealed that the operation was sequel to report on violent activities of the criminal group enforcing the illegal 2 weeks sit-at-home order in Onitsha, Nnewi, and Iheme Obosi in Anambra State, and New Market in Enugu state.
Troops cleared IPOB camps in Ekeututu, Orsomoghu, Lilu and arrested five fleeing members of the group and recovered IPOB flag, one CCTV camera and 2 detonated IED bombs as well as a fabricated mortar tube during the raid.
Five soldiers and two Policemen sustained injuries from the IED detonated by the criminals.
The Nigerian Army encourages the people of South East to continue to support ongoing operations with information and to disregard the unlawful 2 weeks sit-at-home order.
