The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the death of 11 persons in a boat mishap along the Andoni-Bonny waterways.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday.
She ssaid information received by the Command revealed that a local wooden boat powered by a single 25HP Yamaha engine carrying passengers from Ukwa community in Ngo town in Andoni Area enroute Bonny Island, capsized while approaching Amariaria community in Finima town.
Iringe-Koko added that the Officer in charge of Marine, SP Ogarachi Chima, who moved to the scene of the incident of the boat mishap, discovered that 11 passengers had died in the incident.
According to her, investigation is in progress to unravel the root cause of the incident and possible ways of forestalling it.
