The lawmaker representing Degema/Bonny Federal Constituency of Rivers State in the House of Representatives, Farah Dagogo has declared support for the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar.

Dagogo in a statement on Friday described Atiku as the candidate that Nigeria needs to take the country to greater heights.

The lawmaker promised that Atiku will get a landslide victory in Rivers State and will also win the majority of votes in the south-south and other regions of the county.

He said the commitment of the PDP candidate and his running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa to the restructuring of Nigeria including the issues of resource control makes them the best fit to take over the presidency in 2023.

OsunDaily News reports the endorsement is contrary to the stand of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike who has declared that Atiku wonโ€™t get his support and that of Rivers people for the 2023 presidency except Iyorchia Ayu steps down as the PDP National Chairman and is replaced by a southerner.

However, Dagogo in a statement on Friday made available to newsmen by his special adviser, media, and publicity, Ibrahim Lawal, said Atiku has all the leadership qualities and integrity needed to be the next President of Nigeria.

He said: โ€œPart of the problems that had bedevilled our country in recent times is the need to address the restructuring menace and that of resource control, which is paramount to the people of the Niger Delta and other regions in the country with natural resources.

โ€œFor the first time, we have a candidate aspiring to the highest office in the country who is willing to tackle those issues heads on.

โ€œTo demonstrate his commitment and readiness, he assembled legal experts, in collaboration with major and critical stakeholders from the various geopolitical zones, to draft the restructuring amendment bill. That bill is ready and waiting to be presented to the incoming National Assembly, the 10th Assembly.

โ€œThis proactive move alone has diffused the concerns of the larger percentage of the people of the South South in particular, and other geo political zones in the country with natural resources. The people want a leader who they can trust, who does not have integrity deficit, who understands the pains and problems facing them and who possess the wand and political will to tackle it.

โ€œAlhaji Atiku Abubakar has demonstrated that and more. On the basis of policies that will benefit the people, Atiku will get majority of the votes in the South South, as well as other zones in the country. As for Rivers State, he will get a resounding landslideโ€.
