British Conservative, Rishi Sunak has emerged as the new Leader of the United Kingdom’s Conservative Party.
OsunDaily News reports that this was disclosed in an announcement made by Sir Graham Brady after only one nomination was received by the 1922 Committee for the new leader of the party and backed by 100 MPs.
Brady, therefore, declared Sunak to be the next party leader, and consequently the new Prime Minister.
He confirmed that the new Tory leader, Rishi Sunak will address MPs at 14:30 BST.
Rishi Sunak had on Sunday announced he is standing to be prime minister, failing in a first attempt weeks ago.
The former finance minister Sunak said he had a “track record of delivery” and would lead Britain out of a “profound economic crisis”, which experts say has been worsened by the aborted policies of outgoing leader Liz Truss.
In a short statement posted on Twitter confirming his widely expected candidacy, he said “I want to fix our economy, unite our party and deliver for our country.”
