The House of Representatives has vowed to investigate the utilisation and impact of the N62 billion federal government intervention funds invested in HIV/AIDS control programmes.

It added that the investigation would also be extended to funds donated by international donor organisations to the Leprosy, Tuberculosis, and Malaria Control Programme during the Muhammadu Buhari administration.

The Chairman of the House Committee on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Leprosy, and Malaria, Amobi Ogah, stated this Thursday during the oversight visit of the committee.

He expressed disappointment over the absence of the national coordinators of the National Malaria Control Programme and the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programmes during the oversight of the two agencies by the committee.

During the visit, most members of the committee expressed fears over the prevalence of HIV/AIDS infections as compiled by NACA, as the lawmakers urged the agency to do more sensitisation of the rural dwellers on the disease.

The data from the National HIV/AIDS Impact Survey conducted by NACA showed, in most states of the federation, that two out of 10 and three of 15 persons sampled and tested had contracted the deadly disease.
